CALLING ALL THE WSRC SHOW-JUMPERS!!!
We try to provide opportunities for riders at all levels and create a friendly atmosphere but seem to be unable to attract members to our show-jumping teams or training. Is there a reason for this?? Please feed back to Jacqui if there is something we’re not doing, which you’d like us to, or that we are doing that puts you off! I’m keen to organise a jumping clinic with Corinne Bracken but it is only feasible if I have sufficient numbers to make it viable. Please e-mail Jacqui if interested (due to Corinne’s availability it is likely to be a week day)
Robin’s Round Up
A Weekends Holiday at the Champs
The summer seemed to be in full swing, I was enjoying cocktails and nibbles, while sunbathing by the pool. When I was suddenly woken from my dream, to find myself in the middle of an extremely tough, well tiring exercise program. This definitely felt like trouble was brewing. Anyway quite early one morning I was dragged in from the field by the slave, to find that I was to be given a full on bath. Well all I can say is who needs fake tan when there is all that lovely dust lying around! I was then told to go into the nasty thing on wheels; however I did have a companion, my girlfriend Bonnie.
What seemed like hours passed by then we arrived at the same place I went to with Ginger last year, luckily it looked a lot drier this year. In fact I was quite keen to get out. The slave disappeared off with Bonnie, for ages and came back looking exhausted, the slave that is not Bonnie. According to Bonnie they had done the dull circle thing, after trotting round lots of fields. Anyway luckily the slave was so tired that I got to have gentle walk around, looking at all the scary monsters before being given lots of food.
The next day dawned and I seemed to be being washed again, then the silly knotty things were put in my mane. I then struggled over to watch people doing boring circles before I was told to wake up and look pretty. Although the test did include my favourite movement, gallop across the diagonal on a loose rein. After a small sleep I was made to go out again, however this looked more fun jumping. I did give the slave a small scare in the warm up just to make sure she was wake. Anyway the jumps looked awfully scary so I had to give them lots of air, then I was allowed to sleep. My rest was slightly ruined by Bonnie disappearing again, when they reappeared the slave looked a bit different in fact a bit like a drowned rat. Apparently Bonnie had jumped into the water and the slave had decided to do a nosedive and vanish completely from sight. Bonnie was very confused as she tried to carry on, on her own however the drowned rat did get back on to complete the course.
Next morning the slave reappeared looking sort of normal and I was washed again (can you see the theme now). We then wandered over to a field and stood there before I heard 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Go. Now I was still asleep and slightly confused, where were the jumps? Eventually we arrived in another field, with some jumps but I was made to go really fast. However, this lead to more trotting around fields, and then we arrived at what looked like a cross country course. To serve the slave right for making me go so fast before, I went at the same speed again and was completely out of control. Wow what a feeling, so much fun although apparently I was too fast, he he. Anyway all that remained was for Bonnie to do the pole thing, which she is hopeless at anyway, but it was a bit of a disaster as she has a bad back how pathetic, I was fine and I am double her age.
Finally, just to say a fun weekend was had by all, I think the slaves ate too much at their BBQ’s. I cannot complain though as I had more food than I seen before or come to think of it since!

TEAM SHOW-JUMPING REPORT
The qualifiers for the National Championships were held at Elstead Riding Club field on 15th May.
The first class of the day was the ‘Style’ jumping in which the competitors are scored on their approach, pace, style etc over a course of jumps and given scores out of 10, much like a dressage test. Penalties are deducted for any jumping faults to give a final score. Like last year I was only able to persuade 3 riders that they could jump a course in snaffle bridles whilst having their ‘style’ scrutinised! The brave souls were Emma Kampa (Harry), Yvonne Little (Victor) and Georgie Nott (Rajahan). They all rode good rounds that gave the team 4th place. Unfortunately Yvonne and Emma had jumping faults that just dropped them out of the individual placings, but by virtue of their clear round Georgie and Raj came 6th.
Next up was the Intermediate competition. Sadly Emily Seymour (nee Wiggins) with Bazel had to withdraw following their previous weeks exertions in the horse trials. This meant our only entry was Georgie and Raj, who having already jumped a clear round, assumed he was in the jump off and took on a rather speedier rhythm than required and rolled 2 poles in the first round. Despite his keenness, with the ground on the firm side, we decided to withdraw him from the second round. (The theory being that it would save his legs from undue wear and tear- the irony being that he sustained a fracture all by himself playing racehorses in the field a week later! Fingers crossed for a full recovery and that he’ll be able to enjoy parties again in the future)
Last, but by no means least, was the Novice jumping team. By hook or by crook I was determined to get a full team for at least one class, even if it meant fetching Pat Murphy and Ginty as their lorry was out of action. In the first round Emma and Harry had just 4 faults. Both Yvonne with Victor and Georgie, who had now swapped onto her own mount, Dilly, went clear. I promised to skirt round the fact that Pat managed to miss a jump during his otherwise lovely round, ahem! In the second round Emma and Yvonne reversed their scores and Pat did manage to remember the whole course and completed with just 4 faults. Dilly again went clear and went into the individual jump off, where the turbo cob had the hand brake released, just slightly, to go clear in a time just short of class winning to come 3rd. The team finished with a 2 round total of just 8 faults, which was good enough for third place.
Congratulations and thanks to Emma, Georgie, Yvonne and Pat who represented the club and who all went home with rosettes for their efforts. Sadly there has been insufficient response from our juniors to be able to field a team in their qualifier.
